ABOUT US

We keep faith simple.

Coming from janky church experiences, three dudes met over cheap cigars to talk and pray about responding to a little Templeton church’s reach-out for help. Deciding it was worth a try, they launched Vintage Community Templeton in November 2008 with a bunch of people showing up, even though it was never advertised. The idea then was to try doing things more in the spirit of a vintage Biblical-era Church – honest and based in the cleanest gospel possible. Over the years, Vintage has stuck to these values and has done the hard work of keeping non-essential stuff out. Though two of the OG’s have gone onto other things, the church continues its low-brow, trailer-church, honest pursuit of knowing Jesus and living within his gospel, together. Sundays have a bit of a home Bible study vibe – no pretense, no formality, just honest worship, communion and decent teaching with a coffee break in between (no problem being late!). Vintage is probably not for a lot of folks, but if you’ve had rough church experiences; or are tired of smoke machines, money manipulation and cheesy copycats; or have been longing for a church where you can be honest without being rejected – Vintage might click with you.

The People Behind Vintage

We Run lean. Dayn Mansfield, who thinks the title “coach” tells the story better than “pastor”, would be the pastor in church-world language. He has been in and around ministry for 45 years, and has lived through most of it. Dayn has held to his philosophy that “every pastor ought to have a side job so he doesn’t become isolated in the church bubble and doesn’t get soft clammy hands”. He currently moonlights as a mechanic and is otherwise obsessed with two-wheeled vehicles off road and on. He and his bride Kati have four adult kids and four grandchildren. Dayn is one of the Vintage Elder-bros. Odie Carter, Don Athon and Jacob Bond all share the leadership responsibilities within the church.

Vintage community has a sweet children’s Sunday School. From nursery to High School, there is real Bible interaction with teachers who have many years of experience, and much love for kids. Led by Leah Duhon, the kids program is low on fluff and to the point. You know it’s something when the kids want to stay in their classes and the parents have to come get them!
